Something that I remember coming up a couple of times is where we're going to have the actual rp once it gets off the ground. I personally think we should have it here (no, not just because I feel really comfortable with this medium, shut up). One of the (other) reasons was because It would be entirely feasible for us to have a section for each area where something is/will be going on, and we can thus have several different threads of the story going on at literally the same time. There's also the fact that the reason I created this for planning can apply to after we start as well: Except in cases where pesterlogs are necessary you can just leave a message and leave without having to wait for the person who needs to read it to show up. And as for the cases where pesterlogs are necessary, it can easily be arranged for all relevant parties to be online at the same time, for the same reason.

I was under the impression we were going to have this at the mspa forums. Perhaps We could have it both places, though. Maybe We can do the original posting here and mirror tthe finished product there? But what will we do about user input? I thought that was going to be a part of our adventure too.

I dunno if I want the whole reader input thing... I'd kinda prefer to have more control over what happens, although I suppose it is still possible to have that with the reader command structure.

I never considered reader input, as far as I was concerned, this was our story. I was under the impression that we would post here, produce a more finished product and post it up in sections like the actual Homestuck

Essentially, we post and roleplay here, we then look over what works, what is essential, what is not. We take that finished product and then we post it like a fanadventure so that it is more enjoyable for a general audience. However, it would be a fanadventure in as much as HS is actually a freeform story, format only.

Hmm. That's an idea. Although it is dependent on how compatible what we end up with is with the fanventure format. And how much serious editing we're willing to do. Razz

Ooh, I like this idea.
On that note, would we want to finish the actual roleplay before starting to put this up somewhere? I can see pros and cons to either doing that or not. On the one hand, waiting to put it up on a public site would be easier, as we wouldn't be juggling rping and editing. On the other hand, if we wanted an audience, doing both at the same time would be a good way to do it.

I think we get a general story plan, and rp and edit it for posting in parts at a time. I'd love to have reader input, they make it fun and come up with cool ideas we'd have never thought of.
But if we post in on MSPAF as a fanventure, it requires a bit of extra planning in terms of who's introduced when and in what order, how we plan to write it, who's doing the actual writing of what pages (though I'd guess whoever's character is in focus at that time is writing that). Plus, most FA's have at least of image per update. Can we get that much art? How often will we update? How far in advance do we plan? Is this precise, by the seat of our pants, a combination of both?
Format is something we should decide on before we roleplay a word. There a lot of decisions to be made here, and it effects the overall feel of the entire rp.

First we would need to decide if that's what we're doing. I think it would be appropriate to put up a yes/no poll on this, which I might do.
I don't want to leave anyone out of a decision as big as this one, though, and we're still missing two members. Piano, I assume you have a way of contacting Mari to get her over here. Does anyone have any idea on how to get a hold of Katrika? Once everyone's on here, it doesn't matter when they can get on and post, so long as they can...

So, if we do go with this crazy(awesome) blended format idea thing, are we going to have someone do art? I know I like the idea, but will they be able to keep up with whatever pace we set if we do decide to get one? Maybe we should have multiple contributors or something?

We do have several artists floating around both in the rp itself and as friends of ours. I think if we got people to agree, it'd be a huge mashup of styles but would probably be able to carry it. Plus sprites and things would save immense amounts of time.

It'd be best to have base sprites that are shared amongst the artists and plan out panels based on each individual artist's strengths.

Including how fast they can get the job done. It'll help to plan who gets what since we'll already have everything written out here.

Here's a question that will definitely affect format. How are we doing pesterlogs?

Since they generally mean that people aren't actually in close contact with each other, I would assume the actions surrounding them would be in different threads, if we're doing it here. Perhaps have different threads for each character until characters come into direct contact with each other, at which point they would be combined? With pesterlogs, the way I'm thinking this would work would be that one person would be writing in their own thread and include pesterlog with someone else. If the character they were chatting with is at a different point in game time at that point in real-time, they would just include it once they get to that point in their own time, much like when the kids were still being introduced early on in the comic. Alternatively, if we keep ourselves more synced in terms of in-universe time, the log would just appear in both threads. And, in cases where the character in question isn't "on-screen" during that point in game time (I for one am planning on introducing Skotad relatively late, if possible), it would just appear in the thread that the original character is in at the time and not in any of the "off-screen" character's.

...Did any of that make sense?

Yes, I follow you.
That seems like a sensible idea, keeping things chronological and all.

I second that, it all seems sensible and reasonable to me.
Do we want to compile all of the chronological story as it progresses into one cohesive thread as we get different parts done, like getting some one into the Medium, or other significant markers of the plot? Because the beauty of this RP is that it is mostly character-driven, with game play stipulations guiding the actions and timing, making everything flow neatly as an end result.

Hmm. Well, if we intend on ever presenting it that way, (eg the maybe-pseudo-fanventure idea) then we'd have to anyway. If not, it seems to me that it would be a great deal of unnecessary work taking pre-existing (I'm using that word a lot today : P) threads apart and trying to put them together in a way that paces sensibly.

So, assuming we are doing it here (objectors, speak up while these plans are still tentative!) the way I see the system working best is having a subsection for individual rping with a thread for each active player, and a subsection for multiple character rping. Each PC starts out in their individual thread, and when they go into an area or scene where the player expects or simply is open for in-person interaction, they either join an active multi-PC thread or open a new thread in the multi-PC subsection, and the individual one is temporarily locked until the scene/interaction is done. Likewise, multi-PC threads would be locked once the scene within them is completed.
All this locking is, of course, strictly organizational to indicate that, for single-character threads, the character is involved elsewhere, and for multi-character threads that the scene is complete/the characters involved are elsewhere in in-universe time.

...you know, that would open up some interesting possibilities for time-traveling...

Ok, I'm gonna put aside all the other issues so we can resolve this bit now:

Can we all agree to have the rp (except pesterlogs) happen here? It seems like that is the favored option right now.

We're very close to starting; other than polishing out a few character details and making sure we can drag everyone back to the forum, I'm not sure what else we need to get started. We can figure out if we're actually doing Teams or not either soon after we begin or now, but we don't currently have everyone's even looking at the forum, let alone their input... Maybe we need to make another poll then go around tumblr and Skaia's irc nagging people to come here to put their opinion in?

What I'm wondering is... How are we going to start? We establish a Roleplaying section, make a thread for our character, do the introduction and some brief shenanigans that involve or lead up to revealing the SBOARD game, right? Are we keeping a similar format to the forumventures already going on? When we're done with a section/story arc, are we still going to package it together as a single readable Act elsewhere on the forum? I remember talk a long while back about sharing completed acts on MSPA Forums. I'm still fond of that last idea, especially if we can somehow get panels put together for it all. Though, with panels, the text would likely have to be altered since we'd be changing a post from being entirely text based to having a visual representation of what's happening.

Also, unrelated to the above, while I'm excited to see all the stuff our characters do, I'm also excited to see what happens with the NPCs and how that affects the story. The actions of of our NPCs would play a big part of what would make Sboard more than just characters leveling up and causing their own drama.

Hmm. The poll may be a necessary formality to get everyone here to talk about how exactly where doing this. I'll put a two-option poll up.

I think that, given how fluid and unsettled our plans for the plot are exactly, we won't have a cohesive enough plot structure to apply any sort of overall story-wide structure to it, like the act system. Then again, now that I think of it, that could be a powerful tool to get us organized and motivated. What if we did acts by setting an end plot criterion, such that when said criterion is filled, we end the act, do a bit of a small timeskip, set a new goal, and start a new act? What if, for example, the first act goal was to get everyone into the medium? We'd have to work out a way to definitively end the act once everyone was in, but it would be nice to have something to work with when planning.
