Any critiques, complaints, or suggestions about how things are set up here?

Not quite yet, though there is the typical new-forum issue of "Where exactly do we begin?"

Are we going to have a separate topic for each character/plot device? Are we going to have a general thread for any new ideas? I'm not entirely sure how to go about that.

Heh, me neither. Kinda why I put up the thread.

I was thinking to have a thread for each SBOARD player (the characters, that is, not the people) in the character/arc and background sections, but I'm a bit worried that would become too chaotic and confusing, with thirteen possible threads of conversation going on in one thread. It wouldn't be any better to have a topic for each character's relationship with every single other one's though.

I wouldn't be too worried about the other sections, though. If you have something that you want talked about just make a thread in the appropriate section.

This might be a little tedious, but if one thread for each player is too chaotic, what about a subforum for each player?

Wouldn't be too difficult to set up. It might cause a bit of clutter on the main screen, though.

Edit: So it looks like that's what's gonna happen. I'll look into making sure subsections don't show up the same way as a regular section does on the main page.

Edit 2: Aaaaaand done. If I screwed up anyone's name, just let me know.

So, it'd be a short-hand reference to know which characters are participating in each thread? That sounds like a good idea. Maybe our characters' Trollian handle initials will do?

I think in each character subsection we should have a general discussion thread with the character sheet as the original post. I'll go ahead and sticky any such character sheet threads I see.

For the Character subsections, I think general info for the trolls and interactions should be two different sticky threads, so that way the information can easily be found and updated. Or maybe that's over-complicating things.

I think - and correct me if I misunderstood you, Multi - what's being suggested is regarding the actual roleplay, for when we have this show on the road and actual RP threads are being made. If only specific trolls are participating in the thread, say, Morgan, Melean, and Skotad, then the thread title would be some thing along the lines of...
SV, MI, DV: Be the most unlikely group example.

Or if it's a group thread, with everyone participating, it would be labeled...
Everyone: Kick this game in the reality-altering arse.

But that's my opinion/take on it.

I... don't really see a reason for that. I don't think people are likely to forget what threads they're involved in, and it seems to me that it would set an unnecessary limit on who's there, whether intentionally or not. So long as people have unique and appropriate titles, I don't think we'd need any sort of additions to them.
That's not to say I'm objecting to using MSPA-style commands for titles, just that I don't see a reason to mark threads with little add-ons to the titles, unless a specific case calls for it.

Sorry for the double-post, but I thought I should mention that the discussion thread on Doc Net/Lord Neo is up in the Character/Arcs section. Easy to miss, since it's stuck below all the character subforums associated with that section.

This is kind of a silly request, but could we get custom user titles?

Also, how are things going on the "off-topic forum" front?

Custom user titles? Like the line under the username that some forums have, or what?

Grrargh. I suppose I could be persuaded to. I get what the argument is for a community having an off-topic section, but the thing is, we aren't a self-contained community, but rather a part of a larger one focusing on a specific thing we're planning on doing; what's more, I've been part of a smaller community that grew off a larger one that slowly died off because the off topic conversation suffocated everything else.

I suppose I could make an argument that things were going just fine when we were doing the planning entirely in IRC. But then eventually that did start to die out because we started stalling. We were running out of perceived things to do, rather than just starting the damned thing.
I don't think that will be an issue here because of the momentum we already have. We have set dates for things, we have a plan and we're sticking to it.

Also: Yes, I mean those when I say custom user titles. Like how your name says "Admin" beneath it, only it can say whatever.

Yeah, those are pretty cool. I'll see what I can do once I get home (ie on Sunday).

Sorry for the double post, but I have an update on the user title thing. I found the place on the admin panel where I can fiddle with user customization, but there isn't a field for that area. I can add new ones, but as far as I can tell, they all act like the Location thing, except of course with a different title. I've left up the results of my fiddling, which you can see under my avatar.

EDIT: You know, it just occurred to me how useful those things could be for us. If anyone's got an idea for something to put there, feel free to suggest it to me.

Good question. As far as avoiding those emails yourself goes, there's a bar labeled options just below the Preview/Send thing. Under that (once you've clicked the plus button to the right end of the bar) there's an option that's checked by default that says "Notify me when a reply is posted". Unchecking that when you post should stop the emails, and you should only have to do it once per thread. If you guys want me to see about stopping it being checked by default, I can have a look.

So as it turns out, that's actually an account option rather than a forum one. Go into Profile in the bar at the top of the screen, and on the set of links just above and to the right of all the text boxes, go to Preferences. The option "Always notify me of replies" should be near the top.
