On a different note, I can't help but notice that we are going to decide on who has the "second" ruins. This makes me think that we are playing with "teams," similar to the canon trolls. To prevent sidetracking, I'm setting up a topic under Settings and Game Mechanics to address this.
Also, I am setting up an "Entry order" Thread, to post the current order we have, and to open the floor for any changes made (such as where our 14th member will go, or if anyone wants to change spots).

Awesome job on the threads, PM. I'm basically going to keep updating the first post of this thread as a sort of way to organize my thoughts and what I think needs to happen to make the final leap. If anyone else has any thoughts, feel free to bring 'em up.

Question about the poll: Are we ending this after a set period of time, or after 13 votes have been cast?

After the thirteen votes have been cast. I don't want anyone crying foul because someone didn't get to vote - it wouldn't be fair, either. On the other hand, we don't want this dragging out, so encourage everybody to vote! Give the people who aren't on frequently a prod.

Also, I updated the first post - it now has links to pastebins of all four contender's troll bios. Read them carefully!!!

After what's happened the last times we've voted on anything, I am inclined to agree with you. It was kind of a disaster when we didn't include someone because "time ran out".

One thing to keep in mind when voting: Decisions based on which troll you like the best or which person you want to work with are nice, but we should also think about possible group dynamics. If there is a troll that you think would work well with many others, that's a good sign that you might want to choose them ^_^

Shooooosh. Most of us don't know most of the other guys very well either. Also avoid anything like campaigning.

The less we know the better. We're voting on the content and quality of the character, not the author.

I'm sorry that you feel that way. We should have done it in a way that we didn't know who submitted each character so that "getting to know" the person wouldn't be a factor.

Given the circumstances, we did do everything we could to dissociate this vote from the people, and make it about the trolls they created. Leave the usernames out of the list, make sure to say several times "please take the character into account, not who you would like to rp with" and other things.
I do agree with Volksie, though. If we could do it again, it would be nice to make this even more neutral than it was. Blind audition and all that.

Eh, we'd likely have some of the same applicants if we were to do it again (which we very hopefully will not).

I mean hypothetically, as in the "if we could reverse time and go back with this knowledge and do this again" sense. Not the "we should have another vote because we screwed this up" sense.

I call fucking bullshit on adding the fourth applicant.
It doesn't matter if they were a friend of Zero's or not, three applicants were the limit.
And those were Athon, crpdude, and Laurie.
Not some person who we know nothing about. And frankly it's kind of rude to the other applicants.
Oh, and before you say anything I just want to let you guys know that I think the only unbiased vote was the one for Ceiren.

Also, a word of advice?
The applicants could just go to this topic and copy/paste the application URL's into a new tab.

I wasn't aware there was a 3-application limit (nor do I see anywhere where that was made clear), and I asked before throwing my friend into the ring. That was 15 days ago, and not only have I not seen a single objection until now, it's also far too late to just scrap everything and kick a contender out just because we originally had 3 trolls to pick from.

I understand not everyone here knows my friend, and some of you do. She's having trouble getting internet set up in her new apartment, otherwise I'd drag her onto IRC and make her say hi to everyone who hasn't met her already. I know nothing about crpdude, and I've barely spoken to Laurie, though I suppose that's my fault for rarely being on the IRC anymore. Still, I don't care that I know nothing about them because I'm voting on their trolls. I actually prefer the fact that I don't know the person behind them personally when we have to decide one troll to take and three to leave behind.

Please don't try and claim you're the only one not trying to be biased here.

As for the contenders being able to see each other's applications in this thread, I was under the impression none of them knew the forum's URL for that very reason.

As for you not knowing the limit you can chalk that up to you never being on the IRC anymore.

They have all seen the doc, which has the url of the forum right on the top of it. They can view the forum, but I don't think anyone has used it to look at the other applications.

I'm also pretty sure no limit was ever set. I was under the impression there were only 3 until I saw the 4th on the poll, but I don't recall a hard set rule about the number there could be.

In the future then, can all decisions that affect Sboard as a whole (such as the applicants limit) be made clear to everyone involved, and decided together? Stuff like this is one of the main reasons we made the forum in the first place, right? It bothers me that I apparently missed an important rule because I have enough time to sit down and browse the forum a few minutes every day, but not enough to sit around on IRC when discussions like that happen to be taking place.

There was no rule suggestion posted here, and since this was where the poll is being held, I would have to say it would've had to have been mentioned here to be applied. As for everyone knowing everything, that is precisely why, this place was created, so that decisions made are permanently viewable by everyone, not just those who were in the relevant conversation. If some important decision is made irc, it should be posted here or on the doc.
